UNH Graduate Jennifer Lee Wins Oscar for ‘Encanto’
UNH graduate Jennifer Lee is celebrating her latest Academy Award win, as Disney's "Encanto" was named Best Animated Feature.
Lee, a member of the Class of 1992, was an executive producer of the film, which featured the voice talents of Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, Mauro Castillo, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda, Carolina Gaitán, Diane Guerrero, and Wilmer Valderrama.
Lee posted a picture of herself on her Twitter account holding an Oscar statue with the film's producer Clark Spencer, and the single word "ENCANTO!!!!!!" with multiple hearts.
Lee, who has been the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios since 2018, won Best Animated Feature Film of the Year in back 2014 for 'Frozen'.
Lee gave a very personal commencement address at UNH in 2014, talking about how the death of a close friend during her junior year help her get past her own insecurities. The school presented her with an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters during commencement.
She later earned a masters degree in film at Columbia University.
