A water main break in Somersworth Friday morning has impacted traffic and water service.

Somersworth Water Clerk Alison Belmore told Seacoast Current the break was reported around 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Main Street near Indigo Hill Road. The southbound lanes are closed to the Rollinsford border as crews make repairs.

The repairs should be completed by 3 p.m., according to a message from the city.

Service was shut off to residents along Main Street from Indigo Hill Road to the Rollinsford border including Turgeon's Lane, Daniel Street, Patricia Street, Bennett Street, Wildflower Circle and Crockett's Crossing.

Once service is restored water could be discoloder, with fluctuating water pressure and air in the line.

Belmore did not know the immediate cause of the break. A cycle of cold and warm temperatures could have caused the ground to thaw and contribute to a break.

Service in the general area is impacted, including some customers who report no water service on the private (Un)Official City of Somersworth Facebook page.
