Water will temporarily be shut off along a section of Central Avenue in Dover for a couple of hours on Thursday night.

There will be no service between Kirkland Street and the Central Avenue Bridge from 9 p.m. Thursday night until 1 a.m Friday morning.

The closure is to allow a water main section to be capped and the removal of an old hydrant at the Central Avenue and Washington Street intersection as part of the Washington and Main Water Improvements Project.

The work was originally planned for Wednesday night but was postponed due to the forecast of heavy rains from the remnants of Tropical Depression Ida.

Questions about the shutoff can be directed to Community Services at 603-516-6450.

Most of the project has been completed but the contractor is installing secondary water connections at specific sites and water meter boxes for irrigation. There will also be some milling and paving of trenches dug during the project to smooth out the roadway. The work will start at Henry Law Avenue, then continue along Washington Street to Main Street.
