Somersworth police are investigating what led to the death of a child found unresponsive at a home on Tuesday morning.

Police and first responders responded around 6:10 a.m. to a report of a lifeless child, and began resuscitations efforts. The child was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover where they died despite the efforts of both first responders and hospital staff.

The investigation by Somersworth Police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office is ongoing. An autopsy was completed on Tuesday, but a cause and manner of death will be determined at a later time according to police.

Police said there is no threat to the public.

The child's gender and address of their family were not disclosed by police to protect their privacy.
