A Hampton man is one of two divers that drowned Wednesday off the coast of Rockport.

Rockport Police said they were notified about a diver in medical distress on Front Beach just after 11 a.m. and found Alan De Oliveira, 75, of Pepperell, Massachusetts, being assisted by bystanders. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

During an investigation, police learned of a second diver, Richard Brady, 78, of Hampton. A search for him was immediately started with the Rockport Harbormaster, aircraft from the Massachusetts State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard, and a Rockport-based research vessel, the Ocean Reporter. Brady's body was found near Front Beach, and was pronounced dead.

“This is a tragedy for the two families who have lost their loved ones,” Rockport Police Chief JOhn Horvath. “We grieve with both families and send our deepest condolences.”

Police do not suspect foul play in either death which remain under investigation.
