House and Car Damaged by Newmarket, NH Fire
Fire damaged a house and car in Newmarket on Monday afternoon.
Flames broke out around 3 p.m. at the two story house on Nichols Avenue near Washington Street in Newmarket, according to Newmarket Police. Photos of the fire scene show a car parked in the driveway that sustained damage to its front.
Neighboring homes were also evacuated as a precaution, according to police.
Nichols Avenue was closed for several hours to allow for continued cleanup of the fire scene.
"Strong work by our daytime crew to get a quick initial attack," Newmarket Fire & Rescue said on its Facebook page.
Fire departments from Durham, Greenland, Lee, Rye, and Stratham helped with bringing the fire under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire was the second house fire in two days in the Seacoast region.
A fire at the two-story townhouse on Barker Street was reported around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Plaistow firefighters were on scene within three minutes, and the fire was brought under control within 24 minutes, according to Fire Chief Chris Knutsen.
