Maine Man Leads New Hampshire Police on 100 mph Chase on I-95, Route 101
A Maine man driving an SUV reported stolen from Florida was taken into custody Sunday night after two brief high-speed police pursuits on Interstate 95.
New Hampshire State Police spotted the Nissan Murano heading northbound around 7:30 p.m. in Hampton Falls, and tried to stop the driver identified as Emil Girard, 23, of Biddeford. A pursuit onto Route 101 westbound was called off due to traffic conditions, and troopers lost sight of Girard.
Girard was located about 30 minutes later again heading north on I-95, and the trooper again pursued. The chase ended when Girard went off the road near Exit 5 (Route 1 Bypass/Spaulding Turnpike) in Portsmouth and crashed the SUV. He fled the SUV on foot, and State Police called in a K-9 team to track him.
K-9 Scout was able to track Girard to a marshy area a quarter-mile from the crash scene. He faces nearly a dozen charges. The charges include:
- Receiving stolen property (two counts)
- Reckless conduct with a deadly weapon (two counts)
- Disobeying an officer (two counts)
- Resisting arrest
- Reckless operation (two counts)
- Driving after revocation/suspension
After being checked over by Portsmouth first responders Girard was held at the Rockingham County Jail pending arraignment.
