Hampton Police prevented a potentially deadly situation and stopped a man with a gun Wednesday night, who had been making threats against his girlfriend.

Staff at Mount Prospect Academy on Lafayette Road notified police around 9:15 p.m. that a woman on their staff had received threats from Wondens Vamont, 22, that involved use of a firearm, according to Chief Alex Reno. Investigators determined Vamont was armed and on his way to the academy.

Officers went to the school and encountered Vamont after they created a perimeter. Vamont was armed, and taken into custody. He was charged with domestic violence (criminal threatening with a deadly weapon), and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Rockingham County Superior Court.
