A suspect in the shooting of a woman in Rochester was arrested in North Carolina on Wednesday.

Rochester Police said a 50-year-old woman was shot in the head while in an office at the Professional Arts Building on Winter Street around 11:45 a.m.. First responders from Frisbee Memorial Hospital and the Rochester Fire Department stabilized the woman and transported her to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

The investigation by Rochester Police determined Haydee Rivera-Nadeau, 65, of Somersworth as the suspect. A warrant was issued charging her with first degree assault, second degree assault, and attempted second degree murder.

Suspect Flees New Hampshire

The investigation led detectives to believe Rivera-Nadeau was in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina. Police there arrested Rivera-Nadeau and took her into custody on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. She is being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

Rochester Police did not disclose the circumstances of the shooting or why Rivera-Nadeau went to North Carolina.
