🔴 The driver of a disabled SUV was outside when it was hit by a van on Route 101 westbound.

🔴 The lanes were closed for over an hour for cleanup and investigation.

🔴 No charges have yet been announced.


A man trying to get his disabled SUV off Route 101 in Auburn was struck by a van Monday afternoon, sending him airborne and closing the road during the afternoon commute.

New Hampshire State Police said Cody Douglas, 23, of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire, was outside his 2006 Subaru Forester in the left shoulder around 4:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes and was struck by a 2023 Ford Transit van. The impact pushed the Forrester into Douglas, who went into the air

The van, driven by Timothy Philbrick, 56, of Merrimack, continued traveling for another quarter mile because the brakes did not work, police said. The van came to a stop in the breakdown lane.

The drivers were hospitalized for treat of non-life threatening injuries. No charges have been filed.

The travel lanes of Route 101 were closed for about 90 minutes, with traffic getting by in the breakdown lane.

State Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call 603-679-3333.
