Starting Sunday you'll need to dial all ten digits of phone number for every call.

The change is to accommodate the new three-digit suicide and mental health crisis
hotline of 988 which begins on July 16, 2022. The change will make the new number accessible to anyone. Calls can aleaady be made with a full phone number.

Until the 988 is working anyone needing help can dial 1-800-273-8255 (1-800-273-TALK) to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Starting Sunday calls made with only seven digits will reach a recorded message the number cannot be completed as dialed.

Other three digit numbers such as 911 for emergencies, 711 for relay services and 211 for public resources will still work as usual.

The state Division of Emergency Services and Communications said the change will also mean that contacts in phones, fax machines, alarm systems with a telephone connection, call forwarding settings, speed dialing, and voicemail services will need to be updated.
