Route 101 was closed for several hours Friday night after a wrong-way, head-on collision in Hampton.

Eric Jenkins, 22, of Chandler, Arizona, was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu west in the eastbound lanes near the Interstate 95 exit around 9:35 p.m. and hit a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage operated by Melisa Kizoglu, 23, of Hampton, according to New Hampshire State Police.

The impact sent debris all over the roadway, prompting troopers to shut down the eastbound lanes of the highway at Exit 12 (Route 111).  First responders worked to extricate Kizoglu from the Mirage on the left shoulder. She was flown via medical helicopter to a hospital near Boston for treatment of serious injuries.

The Malibu was stopped on the roadway with heavy damage to its front end. Jenkins was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation. State Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call 603-223-4381.
